Open Hangar - The Super Robot OCG Base Set (EARLY ACCESS)
A downloadable card game
The year is 0100 ADA. The world is past the brink of collapse following a disastrous global pollution crisis. War is fought on Earth and in space using fantastical metal giants.
The year is 1998. You just got home from school to watch cartoons, and your favorite channel has started airing a new show from Japan. You can't wait to tell your friends about these cool giant robots.
Open Hangar is a single-purchase Organic Card Game inspired by your favorite mecha anime from the past to the modern day, featuring over 100 cards you and your friends can use to build a deck, duke it out, and decide the fate of mankind in the name of the rebellious Siyanqoba, the xenophobic Lunarians, the heroic Chagger Force, or the deeply enigmatic SABBI, all of whom view the mysterious energy source known as Chargon in different ways.
What's an Organic Card Game?
One single purchase will grant you access to the entire Base Set of Open Hangar, which you can use to print out as many copies of each card as you want, as well as upload the designs to any sort of digital tabletop as you please. Pass the cards around to your friends, even! If you're a fan of Fantasy Flight's "Living Card Game" concept, then you'll be an even bigger fan of this.
You will also have access to any updates and errata to cards as they come, and possibly even new cards as they're added to the Base Set, hence the "organic" feeling as you'll be here as the game changes and grows as if manipulated by a mysterious energy source.
What does Early Access mean for a card game?
The game is far from complete. Oh, sure, the rules and concepts are done, but once you download the files, you'll see that a large number of the cards don't have art, or have low-resolution placeholder art. Every single dime that you give me when you purchase the Base Set will go towards commissioning more artists for card art until every card has a visual representation on it. I will NEVER use AI generated art on any card.
What do I get when I buy this?
Your purchase of the Open Hangar Base Set gives you access to 109 individually-designed cards to be used in a 2 (or more) player match of Open Hangar, as outlined by the included rules. You will receive high-resolution images of each card to upload to the virtual tabletop of your choice, as well as a PDF that you can print out physically to get the cards in standard poker size to place in card sleeves and play with in a physical space.
A comprehensive rules document, a handy "cheat-sheet" of concepts and keywords, a series of episodic stories showcasing the story, setting, and characters of Open Hangar, and a small subset of the cards available in the game that you can use to print two Beginner Decks are free to all fans of the game.
For anyone who wants to give a little extra, pick up the High-Res Art pack, containing all available finished card art that you can use to make your own wallpapers and icons!
What are the "Special Guest" cards in the set?
The Special Guest cards were created to showcase non-canon mecha and characters from other Mech_Romancer-branded games, as well as those created by friends of the developers. They feature wild swings in game design that aren't guaranteed to gel with the rest of the cards and should only be used in games where your friends are all cool with it.
I want to help with the development of this game!
Great news: By buying this, sharing it, or even just telling your friends, you're already helping further development. If you want more active input, then make sure to give me any feedback you have in the comments or on social media at @OpenHangarOCG, openhangar.bsky.social, and open-hangar.tumblr.com. If you fancy yourself a visual artist who would like to contribute, I'm always looking for new talent.
Who is involved in this game?
Open Hangar is designed and created by a one-person team known as Bear Village Games. The art is sourced from artists around the world, from Japan, Korea, and Hong Kong to Brazil and Russia, all of whom are credited on each card and in the rules file. It was play-tested in its infancy by friends and family of Bear Village Games.
Open Hangar was created on the original stolen land of the indigenous Miami Nation of Indiana that they controlled before they were forcibly displaced.
